Badlands, Day 1

Arrived at the Badlands today in the midst of a major heat wave. 92 degrees when we arrived and 102 degrees when we stopped for lunch in Wall. We really wanted to boondock and had planned to do it on the cliff here in the Badlands but because the temperature is forecasted to be 106 degrees tomorrow we booked an rv site instead. Air conditioning is our friend right now.

We took a drive up to the boondocking area just to check it out for further reference. There were a few hearty souls up there, just too hot for us. We will be back someday.

Since we just arrived and have 3 more days we only drove part of the loop then headed into Wall for lunch. Had to leave the motorhome parked at the visitor’s center because it was too early to check in at the rv park.

These signs are everywhere!

This place is so much bigger than we expected. The scenery probably looks all the same in pictures, can’t do it justice.

The area with the yellow color is so pretty.

We stopped for lunch in the famous town of Wall, at the Badlands Saloon and Grille. Good food and a nicer atmosphere than the crazy cafeteria style at Wall Drug.

Lots more to see and do in the next few days but we ended up cooling off in the pool after checking in at the rv park. This KOA is about 6 miles south of the Badlands and is in the middle of nowhere. Supposed to have great dark skies, so looking forward to that!
