Just a few miles off I-90 in Mitchell SD is The Corn Palace. The building as it is now was constructed in 1921. Back in 1892 a temporary structure was built annually to celebrate the fall harvest and bring together the local farmers for stage performances and socialization after the busy growing season.
There are still fall festivals held here as well as sporting events, especially high school basketball.

The murals are all made out of naturally colored corn cobs and are redone every year, this year’s theme is Under the Big Top.
