On Aug. 10th we decided to take two days off from work to do a Pikes Peak road trip. We took the scenic route which took us over the Sangre De Cristo mountain range which is a part of the Rock Mountains. This eventually took us to the town of Woodland Park which was our destination. Bonnie lived in Woodland Park for a while, so she knew the area quite well. We could see Pikes Peak from the lodge we stayed at. Got up early the next morning to get a head start. The drive up was pretty impressive. The elevation at the top is 14,115 ft. with a 19 mile drive to the summit. unfortunately the viewing platforms at the summit were closed due to construction. We were able to drive most of the way up and had to shuttle the last 3 miles to the summit due to the construction. Under construction is the new summit complex and the new cog rail system. The drive up consisted of 156 turns and switchbacks. It ranks 31st in elevation among Colorado’s “fourteeners”.

Even the deer had to wait in line to use the bathrooms.
