San Xavier Mission is a National Historic Landmark, construction began in 1783 and was completed in 1797. It is the oldest intact European structure in AZ. The inside has the original statuary and mural paintings. The mission was founded by the Jesuit order but is currently run by the Franciscans. This church is located on the Tohono O’odham Indian Reservation (just outside of Tucson AZ) and serves the local community. The Franciscan Sisters still teach in the attached school and have since 1872.

We walked up the hill to the white cross, the view of the mission from the hill was beautiful.
